Meet and Confer
A Brief Overview
The Pima County Chapter of SEIU Arizona is now gearing up for “Meet and Confer.”
Meet and Confer is the process we follow to develop a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU). An MOU is like a contract -- and we have to negotiate the terms of our 'contract' with the county. The stronger we are, the better our MOU will be.
Soon, the elected Officers of our chapter will sit down with the county and discuss issues concerning wages, benefits and working conditions for county employees.
They won’t be alone. They will be supported by SEIU staff who specialize in negotiations, research and finance. And they will be supported by the Union Representatives we are now in the process of nominating, as well as by all members across the county.
Why should you get involved. Well, if you care about your wages and benefits and want improvements in your working conditions, now is the time to step up and make sure your views are known.
And the first step is to become a member.
Pima Membership Application
If you're not a member of the Pima Chapter of SEIU, you need to become one. And if you ARE a member, you need to let your co-workers know how important membership is to the Meet and Confer process and help sign them up. The quality of our negotiations is DIRECTLY related to our strength of membership. The more Pima County employees who are members, the more powerful our arguments become. Simple, but true.
Next, is the nomination and election of Officers and Union Representatives.
Our board consists of seven Officers - one President and six Vice Presidents. The terms for President and three Vice Presidents (one from Health, one from Public Works and one from Justice/Legal) have expired and we will elect new Officers for these positions. In addition, we’ll elect Union Representatives from all departments throughout the county.
Union Reps will build membership in their area, keep members involved and informed about Meet & Confer and work with our Officers to help develop the strength we need to be active participants in the issues that impact our jobs and the services we provide.
