"Sooner Rather Than Later"
The Meaning of Membership
Mary Denton hasn’t been a Pima County employee for very long. An RN, she began working for Pima Health System in Patient Care Services last December. But she brings with her more than 30 years of nursing experience as well as a firm commitment to high-quality patient care.
Mary was “thrilled” to hear that she had the opportunity to join SEIU as a Pima County employee. She believes that employees can and should be actively involved in efforts to raise standards, both in the workplace and in the community, and that joining together with her co-workers is one good way to do that.
“I’m very concerned about protecting my benefits and my overall future in the workplace,” she said. “Joining SEIU was the first step for me to ensure that I’ll have a hand in those things.”
Our Meet and Confer team is now sitting down with management to discuss our wages, benefits and working conditions. Mary knows that our arguments carry more weight when supported by a committed and unified membership.
And given the broad range of issues that concern Pima County workers – the possible transition of Attendant Care Workers to the private sector, competitive wages and job stability, and protecting our benefits – being unified has never been more important.
“I would encourage those on the fence about membership to understand that the improvements needed for Pima County will be made sooner rather than later if we show our power through pure numbers.”
