Tempe Bargaining Victory
Tempe Chapter Raising Standards Again!
Tempe Chapter members ratified their Memorandum of Understanding during the last week of May and as a result of the good work done at the bargaining table, 21 new members joined up.
“New hires and undecided co-workers quickly learn that a good MOU comes from strong membership,” said Tempe Chapter President Carol Martsch. “We get results because we’re united.”
The SEIU Tempe Chapter continues to raise standards for public service employees in Arizona. The market survey that our bargaining teams have improved over the last 3 years of negotiations just got even better. In our new MOU, the city has committed to remain in the top quarter of wage compensation, with members eligible in January 2009 for up to a 7% pay raise, depending on the market.
In addition, we have successfully addressed the key issue of wage compaction – where wages needed to attract new hires equal or exceed those of long-term employees. Employees who have been impacted are now receiving a pay raise and a nice retroactive paycheck; some workers will get checks of over $3,000.
