Retirement Survey

Are Changes on the Horizon?

For some city employees, retirement is just around the corner.  But even if your retirement is years away, new city reporting requirements for retiree health care plans make this an important issue for all city employees to understand.

Here’s the background: The City of Tempe is now required to show how it will fund what are known as “Other Post-Employment Benefits,” or OPEBs.  Retirement health care is one of these benefits and in light of the new accounting requirements, Tempe is reevaluating its long-term ability to fund retiree health care benefits as they are currently offered.

While the city has committed to leaving the health care coverage for current retirees untouched, the program for new hires has already been changed.  Now, the city is reviewing the retirement health care coverage plan for current employees. – and that means you.

Since the city has asked the Tempe Chapter of SEIU Arizona to participate in the health care discussions, we’ve developed a quick survey to find out what you think, what ideas you might have on the issue and whether you’d like to be involved in future discussions.  Please take a moment to express your views so we can all make sure that this important benefit is reviewed – and perhaps revised – in a manner that protects the interests of all Tempe employees.

If you’d like to participate, email Chapter President Carol Martsch at carol.martsch@seiu5az.org
