TEMPE - The City of Tempe is now required to show how it will fund what are known as “Other Post-Employment Benefits,” or OPEBs. Retirement health care is one of these benefits and in light of the new accounting requirements, Tempe is reevaluating its long-term ability to fund retiree health care benefits as they are currently offered.

Safety at Kyrene Plant

In September, five Tempe city employees at the Kyrene Water Recycling Plant became ill as a result of high concentrations of hydrogen sulfide, or sewer gas, at the treatment facility.  Tempe Chapter Union Representatives interviewed employees soon after the incident and went to work looking for ways to assure workplace safety.
