Chandler Chapter Ratifies MOU
2.9% Wage Increase and More Vacation Time
Read the Agreement
With an overwhelming ‘yes’ vote, Chandler employees recently ratified the agreement our bargaining team reached with city management.
The Memorandum of Understanding includes a 2.9% across-the-board wage increase and additional vacation accrual, as well as the establishment of a joint City/SEIU Benchmark Committee.
The new committee will give SEIU members the opportunity to work with the Chandler Human Resources department to define the relevant benchmarks for future market adjustments.
“It’s a very good agreement, particularly in a difficult economic year,” said bargaining team member and Chandler Chapter President, James Kame.
The issue of vacation equity was an important part of the overall negotiations. SEIU members had circulated a petition among ALL city employees calling on management to bring Chandler’s vacation policies more in line with those of neighboring cities. The strong employee response made it clear to city management that this was an issue that needed to be addressed.
“The petition drive for vacation equity was a big factor in getting management to agree to adjust our vacation time,” said Tim Wakefield, a bargaining team member and Chapter Vice President. “Most employees will enjoy the additional vacation the bargaining team won.”
